Key stages for feeding winter wheat

A short field guide for distributing nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium through the season.

Wheat nutrition starts with autumn root development. Phosphorus strengthens roots, while nitrogen supports spring tillering and stem growth.

Set fertilizer rates by soil analysis and previous crop residue, not only by a general recommendation. This reduces waste and protects plants from burn.

Spring feeding works best when moisture is available. Fertilizer spread on a dry and windy day can lose part of its effect.
